Suite Showcase 14 - Stargazing

Hello and welcome back!

It’s the second Suite Showcase of the month. This week we’re focusing on the Stargazing Suite. Now I’ll confess, the stamp set and dies didn’t appeal to me, but the designer series papers (DSP), are gorgeous! So today, I’m showing you what you can do with the papers when you add just a couple of other things from the Stampin’ Up! Catalogue.

As usual, I’ve kept my first card fairly simple. In this instance, I struggled to decide which piece of DSP I wanted to use, but I settled on the more blue star background. I cut the DSP to fit my Night of Navy standard card base, with a tiny border. I then used 2 circle dies – the largest and third largest to create a slightly planet feel. I then put the largest piece of DSP on dimensionals, but the central circle, I adhered flat on the card base.

I decided to keep the sentiment simple and pulled the ‘hello’ from our Layering Leaves stamp set and stamped it directly on the DSP in Starry Sky. I added a faux bow using the Starry Sky metallic woven ribbon, behind the sentiment layer and then adhered this on dimensionals to the card base.

To complete the card, I die cut some stars from the Wanted to Say die set, which is one of my new absolute favourite die sets. I’ve used this set on all of my cards today. The stars were die cut from our new holographic specialty paper.

For my second card, again I kept things very simple. I made a standard card base from Pumpkin Pie. I have to say this is a colour I don’t use much – mainly at Halloween and in the autumn. But with the colours in these papers, it coordinates beautifully.

To make the card, I added a layer of Basic Black card slightly smaller than the card base. The DSP layer was cut with a small border to adhere to the black matting layer. The black really makes the colours pop. For the sentiment and stars, I reached for the Wanted to Say dies. This set comes with the sentiment ready to die cut including the outline. The outline, I die cut from Basic Black and the wording from Pumpkin Pie. The stars, as with the previous card, I die cut from holographic specialty paper.

And that’s it. So quick and simple! I love how bright and cheerful it is.  What do you think?

For my final card, I stepped things up a little. I cut a matting layer for my Basic White standard card base (made from Basic White Thick). On the matting layer, I wanted to create a window effect. Like someone is looking out from a spaceship into space. To do this, I used the largest rectangle from our new Nested Essentials die set and cut a window towards the top of the layer. Once this was done, I embossed the panel using the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder.

I added a piece of window sheet behind the window in the panel and trimmed the purple star background piece of DSP to fit behind the window. I fussy cut a number of planets from the DSP (though if you have the dies from the suite, these would do it for you). I adhered these to the piece of DSP using multipurpose liquid glue and then added both of these directly to my card base, being mindful of where the window panel will sit.
The embossed window panel was adhered to the card base on dimensionals. For the sentiment, I used the off cut from the piece cut from the window panel and pulled a sentiment from Cheerful Daisies stamp set (another of my favourites), but you can pull from any stamp sets you already have, and stamped this in Blackberry Bliss.

To create the smaller panel for the sentiment, I lined up the rectangle die again with the bottom edge of the just below the sentiment. I ran this through the Stampin Up cut ‘n’ emboss machine again and this gave me the smaller label. Using a blending brush, I added some Blackberry Bliss to the sentiment.

To complete the card, I again added stars die cut from the holographic paper. I added some Sweet Sorbet metallic woven ribbon to the back of the sentiment panel and adhered both of these by dimensionals just under the window. Then positioned the stars across the card using glue dots.

I hope you like the cards. And I have to confess, I want to get the stamp and die set that are part of the suite now, so guess what will be in my next order!
